John Frazer Appointed to Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Advisory Board

Posted by:

John “J.J.” Frazer, President of New Horizon Security, has been appointed Private Security Services Advisory Board Business Representative

The PSAAB advises the Criminal Justice Services Board (CJSB) on matters relating to the regulation of the private security industry. It is made up of 13 members, appointed by the CSJB, and represents various aspects of the private security industry. The board is the approving authority for any regulations the Department of Justice circulates, and establishes and enforces minimum training standards for both law enforcement and private security personnel, as well as criminal justice. The DCJS processes all applicants applying for a license to practice private security as well as certifies instructors of private security training schools.

“I am honored to have been selected as a member of the PSSAB, especially now when the challenges facing the security industry are becoming more complex,” said John “J.J.” Frazer, “I look forward to sharing some of the innovations we have developed at New Horizon Security, and exploring the ideas of my colleagues, to advance private security in Virginia.” Frazer will serve as the Private Security Services Business Representative for a one-year term beginning July 1, 2016. Frazer was voted to serve on the board by the Criminal Justice Services Board (CJSB).

“As a lifelong private security professional, being appointed to this position is the capstone of my 20 plus years in this field,” continued Frazer, who has a degree in Criminal Justice from James Madison University and founded New Horizon Security in 1998. It was his “security with a smile” philosophy, modeled after the Disney theme park quality approach, combined with proprietary technology, training and industry-leading employee screening practices that differentiated the Company and propelled its growth. New Horizon Security was recently honored by being named to the 2016 Inc. 5000 list of America’s fastest growing private companies for the sixth consecutive year.

“I have had great mentors at DCJS throughout my career,” added Frazer, “There have been people that have gone above and beyond to guide me and my business; I am looking forward to being able to do the same for developing companies.”

How does New Horizon Security celebrate turning 18? By Standing Up 2 Cancer!

We all have known someone who has been affected by cancer, whether it’s a loved one or a friend, it touches us all. When cancer hits one, it hits us all.  New Horizon Security and its employees have felt this impact and decided to make a difference. On April 29th, New Horizon Security celebrated 18 years in business. To celebrate, we decided to Stand Up 2 Cancer by holding a fundraiser.

Stand Up 2 Cancer (SU2C) is a groundbreaking way to fundraise to help speed up innovative cancer research to get it to patients quickly and save lives now.

Employees were invited to donate $18, and the company would match it. Together, New Horizon Security and its employees donated $1800.00 to Stand Up 2 Cancer.

We’d like to thank our employees for their generous donations and for their support of this fundraiser.

Retired Fleet Gets Second Life

Posted by:

New Horizon Security was recently given a special award from Albemarle County Fire and Rescue (ACFR) for donating two retired fleet vehicles to the County for fire and rescue training.

Doug Snyder, Chief Administrative Officer at New Horizon Security and a volunteer firefighter/EMS with Albemarle County, presented a Citation of Merit to John “J.J.” Frazer, President, for his generous donation.

Back in mid November, two cars from the New Horizon Security Richmond fleet needed to be retired. They were older models with significant mileage, so rather than trading them in or trying to fix them, Doug approached J.J. about donating the cars to ACFR.

“It was a no brainer; we had these cars we didn’t need any longer, and then we heard the fire department could use them for specialized training” said J.J., “Doug arranged it all, I was just the guy who said they could crash my cars.”

Fire stations from all over Albemarle County took part in the training.

Snyder said the donated cars served two purposes; the crew trained on how to stabilize a vehicle before cutting into it, and then trained on cutting into the vehicle to get a patient out.

“Often, we get scraps or pieces of a car to train with. So to get actual vehicles, ones we see on the street every day, and then get to stage them the way we need to for training was invaluable,” said Doug Snyder.

Because it is so rare for the county to receive such an instrumental donation, county fire officials wanted to show their appreciation to J.J. and New Horizon Security by presenting him with the Citation of Merit.

And the donation came at a perfect time.

A few weeks after the training, several crew members who had been part of the exercise responded to a serious accident involving a car in a tree. They were able to draw upon their recent experience and successfully and safely remove the patient from the car, and safely extract the car from the tree.

Snyder added, “Stations across Albemarle County are still using, and will continue to use, the New Horizon Security vehicles until only scrap metal is left.”

Proudly Securing One of the Biggest Charity Gaming Events in the USA

Posted by:

New Horizon Security is providing security for Games Done Quick, a series of charity video game marathons held by the Speed Demos Archive website, all to raise money for charity.

Games Done Quick has been hosting marathon gaming events for charity for the past five years. The marathon gaming event features sophisticated play by speedrunners, or gamers, who are playing to raise money for charity. They’ve teamed up with charities like Doctors Without Borders and the Prevent Cancer Foundation over the years.

It began in January of 2010 where speed runners, or gamers, raised over $10,000 for CARE. It was followed up in 2011 with the first Awesome Games Done Quick marathon where $50,000 was raised for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. They’ve also teamed up with charities like; Doctors Without Borders over the years.

2016’s Awesome Games Done Quick will be held right here in Northern Virginia January 3-10 at the Hilton Dulles Airport Hotel.

New Horizon Security is providing 24-hour security for the week, managing access to gaming rooms, and helping organizers by with overall safety and security of the event.

How it works

Professional speedrunners demonstrate their expertise for a week by taking turns to complete different games as fast as they can. Games are from all gaming systems and include both modern and retro games. Sometimes the speedrunners play the game in unusual or fun ways, like playing blindfolded or racing other gamers. These are all funded through donations.

This year’s charity will once again be the Prevent Cancer Foundation.

The marathon event can be watched online, and you can donate via the Games Done Quick home page, as well as from the Games Done Quick Twitch account. Funds go directly to the charity via PayPal.

Employees Grant Holiday Wishes for Local Children

Posted by:

Employees from several offices across the state of Virginia; including Manassas, Richmond and Danville, VA picked an angel that ranged in age from infant to twelve years, and granted three top wishes from their list.  Employees also provided supplementary toys that will be used to give to children who may not get an angel gift. Employees also filled 25 stockings to near bursting for other needy children in our area. New Horizon Security matched donations from employees, ensuring all bags and stockings were complete, and providing toys for much needed age categories.

“It is times like this, seeing the generosity of so many coming to the aid of those in need, that really puts things in perspective. The response was overwhelming!” said John “J.J.” Frazer, President of New Horizon Security.

New Horizon Security is committed to serving in the communities in which we live and work. The continued generosity of employees only drives this commitment. In September, New Horizon Security employees donated more than 200 pounds of food to the local food pantry operated by SERVE, the Manassas campus of Northern Virginia Family Services (NVFS).

In October, New Horizon Security employees once again rose to the occasion by answering an urgent call from NVFS for new and gently used clothing and household items. New Horizon Security was able to match much of what was donated by employees with new items, resulting in three large boxes, along with several bags, being donated to SERVE.

New Horizon Security Continues its Tradition of Giving Back

Posted by:

As a family-owned business, New Horizon Security believes families are at the heart of our society, and actively looks for ways to lend support to families in need. That’s why we support organizations like SERVE, the Manassas campus of Northern Virginia Family Services.

As a company, New Horizon Security is committed to giving back to the communities in which we live and work. The generosity of New Horizon Security employees continues to drive this commitment.

One example of this commitment is a recent food drive in September. New Horizon Security employees rallied together to donate more than 200 pounds of canned food to a pantry operated by SERVE.

And in October, when Northern Virginia Family Services issued an urgent call for donations of new or gently used clothing and household items for their network of shelters, the New Horizon Security stepped up to answer that call.

Donation boxes were set up in the home office in Manassas for several weeks. Employees gave generously, and the Company matched their donations with new items. We’re proud that as a result, we were able to deliver three large boxes and multiple bags of new and gently used items, including:

  • 16 coats/jackets
  • 4 packs of 10 socks
  • 5 blankets
  • 16 bath towels
  • 16 hand towels
  • 7 sheet sets
  • 7 pairs of gloves
  • 7 hats
  • 6 pairs of boots/shoes
  • 4 shower curtain liners
  • 4 bug proof pillow cases
  • 3 pillows
  • Various miscellaneous clothing items for men and women

Jan Hawkins, Volunteer Coordinator at SERVE was very appreciative of the donations from New Horizon Security. “The linens will be a big help to our families who are moving out of the shelter and into permanent housing. The clothing will be very helpful to our residents. Thank you for your generosity.”

Next up, New Horizon Security employees are stuffing stockings for children of families in need, and sponsoring an angel tree, in which we hope to provide each of the ‘angels’ their holiday wishes.

New Horizon Security Honors First Responders

Posted by:

When an emergency occurs–whether it is a medical emergency, a natural disaster or some type of violence, like the attacks in Paris–the first responder is often not a medical or law enforcement official but a professional security officer.

As we reflect on the recent tragedy in Paris, New Horizon Security honors all first responders at home and abroad, who place themselves in peril every day to help those around them.

Thank you.

New Horizon Security Named to Inc. Magazine’s Top 5000 for Fifth Consecutive Year

Posted by:

Inc.’s 500 l 5000 list represents the most comprehensive look at the most important segment of the
economy—America’s independent entrepreneurs. 2015 marks the fifth straight year that New Horizon Security
has been recognized—propelled by its three-year growth of 233 percent, which earned the rank of No. 1730–a
feat only small percentage of the companies on the list have done.

“Not many companies have the stamina to be listed five times in a row,” said John “J.J.” Frazer, President of
New Horizon Security, “Our success is a testament to the dedication and professionalism of our team, and
shows we are doing it right.”

Virginia was the fifth fastest growing state on the list, and the Washington DC metro area came in second
among the fastest growing metro areas, according to Inc. The security industry grew 127 percent in 2014.

“The story of this year’s Inc. 5000 is the story of great leadership. In an incredibly competitive business
landscape, it takes something extraordinary to take your company to the top,” says Inc. President and Editor-InChief
Eric Schurenberg. “You have to remember that the average company on the Inc. 5000 grew nearly sixfold
since 2012. Business owners don’t achieve that kind of success by accident.”

New Horizon Security’s revenue grew to $19.7 million following the addition of several new government
clients, such as Arlington County and the VA Department of Military Affairs, residential communities, such as
Heritage Hunt Golf & Country Club; and major special events, such as the Quicken Loans National PGA

“I am very proud of what we have accomplished,” continued Frazer, “Our growth is the result of a constant
focus on hiring the best, delivering exceptional service, investing in technology and training, and forging strong
customer relationships, which enable us to deliver greater value to our customers.”

The Inc. 5000’s aggregate revenue is $205 billion, generating 647,000 jobs over the past three years. The
average company on the list achieved a mind-boggling three-year growth of 490%. Complete results of the Inc.
